Laotian

Organization: Lao-American Association of Iowa

Mission: To promote Lao traditional cultures to the public and bridge the gap between elders and the younger generations by preserving the traditional cultures (dances, musical instruments, clothing, and religion) Also to forge friendship and support among the members’ families.

History: The Lao-American Association of Iowa was started in 2001 by the elders in the community. They were looking to preserve the Lao traditional cultures for the next generations and create an organization that identifies the community identity and promote the Laotian cultures in Iowa. Our organization has been involved in many activities in the community. We have been involved with the Iowa Asian Alliance, American Red Cross, Wat Lao Temple, and other activities in the community.
